For the fifth consecutive year, Impact Hub Caracas, in partnership with Technovation, will run Technovation Girls Venezuela program. And our mission is to encourage girls between 15 and 18 years of age, from vulnerable communities in Caracas, in the field of technological entrepreneurship through the development of mobile applications aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Technovation Girls, the world’s largest global technology entrepreneurship competition for young women, operates in more than 100 countries and offers them the opportunity to learn the necessary skills to emerge as entrepreneurs, businesswomen and technology leaders.

During 14 weeks, via online and in person, girls will receive classes in ideation, coding, pitch (short presentation), business plan and entrepreneurship. And later, they will present their mobile application before an international jury through the Technovation platform. In addition, they will be accompanied by pro bono professionals who will assume the role of mentors. They will guide the girls in the process of finding a problem in their community, developing a mobile application and a business plan to help solve problems in an innovative way, responding to one of the SDGs. They are going to work in teams and will communicate with different audiences.

Claudia Valladares, regional ambassador of Technovation Girls Venezuela and co-founder and president of Impact Hub Caracas -the organization responsible for executing the program- said that the program aims to bring more young women into technology so that in the near future they will be motivated to study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers, closing the existing gaps in computer science.

“We wish to train leaders through technology, and contribute to achieving gender equity, and we are sure this program is one of the best ways to do that. During past editions in Venezuela, we have prepared almost 300 young women as technology entrepreneurs, we managed to get 11 Venezuelan teams to represent us in the semifinals and we earned the regional award in Latin America in 2019.

65 Apps have been created with the help of 100 pro bono mentors who have helped us to positively impact these girls and their communities,” said Valladares.

The program will begin next December 2021 and will end in May 2022. Teams must present their proposals to an international jury, and if chosen, will have the opportunity to represent the country in San Francisco, California, as participants in the global competition (World Pitch) where the winning team of Technovation Girls 2022 edition will be announced.

Those willing to participate in this program may apply until November 26, 2021 at: https://caracas.impacthub.net/technovation-girls-2021/.

Caracas, September 3, 2021 – After five months of preparation, and the creation of sustainable business opportunities based on biodiversity, Innovation Eco – incubation program for entrepreneurship and ecosocial innovation of the Small Grants Program (SGP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), already has competitors selected from this first edition.

Fundación Senderos with its eco-enterprise: Momoy Soluciones Energéticas; Rutas Turísticas Surandinas, Cultivo Sostenible de Cocuy en Venezuela and Línea de Biopreparados para la Agricultura, were the ones that stood out in the pitch day before a jury of 10 eco-enterprises that participated in Innovation Eco 2020.

These sustainable businesses for biodiversity won a crowdfunding campaign on Green Crowds, the first crowdfunding platform for socio-environmental initiatives in Ecuador, as well as a specialized advice for the formulation of the proposal for the application of their projects to obtain PPD funds and a visibility campaign.

Alexis Bermúdez, National Coordinator of the Small Donations Program (PPD) Venezuela, described this program, which is setting the tone and creating precedents in the country, as a unique opportunity. He said, “This is just the beginning of the incubation program for PPD partners. We want to strengthen the execution of the Eco-Entrepreneurships that are part of the PPD and focus them towards sustainability. You are not just any project, you are doing things differently… We are communities that are changing the world”.

Get to know the winners.

1st place-Fundación Senderos (FUNDASEN) with its eco-venture: Momoy Soluciones Energéticas. They proposed the construction of Top Lit-Up Draft (TLUD) cookstoves and solid biomass fuels as a resilience and sustainability strategy for Andean communities and ecosystems threatened by climate change. This technology releases clean energy for cooking and controlled combustion of biomass while giving Biochar as a by-product. It is important because it avoids (mitigation) greenhouse gas from reaching the atmosphere, emissions reduction (ER). It promotes adaptation because the sequestration of Biochar in soils favors regenerative agriculture and the sustainable management of agricultural and forestry waste as renewable fuel. And it also allows the Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) of emissions that are already in excess at the atmosphere. FUNDASEN is partnering with Paul Anderson, PhD and Juntos Energy Solutions in the USA, to implement the “WoodGas Impact” strategy in Venezuela.

2nd place- Fundación Programa Andes Tropicales – Rutas Turísticas Surandinas: they expand and diversify the tourist offer in the southern towns, one of the least known regions of the Venezuelan Andes with the greatest potential. Not only in terms of biodiversity and cultural content, but also in terms of a fastest growing tourism modalities in the world. They offer a network of tourist services and products that covers three municipalities and at least nine communities. Where climate-smart agroecology and climate change management are practiced under biosafety standards and in an environment of social equity and high participation of women.

3rd place- Cocuy Chumaceiro – Sustainable Cocuy Cultivation in Venezuela: promotes the sustainable cultivation and commercialization of Venezuelan cocuy, through export quality products that promote the development of communities. And at the same time, create positive environmental impact for the preservation of the basins and soils where it is grown in the semi-arid region of Lara and Falcón.

4th place- Fundación para la Agricultura Tropical Alternativa y el Desarrollo Integral – They are a line of Biopreparations for agriculture: they offer a line of liquid organic fertilizers obtained by anaerobic fermentation of organic waste in the production centre. They also offer two types of biological controllers for the agroecological management of traditional coffee plantations under shade, and this favors the microbial flora of the soil and facilitate the availability of nutrients for coffee plants.

Innovation Eco was an initiative of the Small Grants Program (SGP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), together with Impact Hub Caracas. The event strengthened triple-impact enterprises dedicated to preserving biodiversity. Empowering communities and promoting self-employment, quality employment, and favoring the insertion of women and young people from different states in the country. Who also work in initiatives to preserve the environment with the support of the PPD.

These are the winners of Innovation Eco, promoting sustainable businesses in biodiversity.

Caracas – August 2021 – Impact Hub Caracas – a community that promotes triple impact entrepreneurship: financial, social and environmental – launched  the ImpactGirls Gender-Based Violence program.

ImpactGirls GBV is an educational program specially designed by women and aimed at girls between 13 and 17 years of age, from vulnerable communities in Caracas. And was designed in the prevention of Gender Based Violence (GBV). Our slogan “together let’s break the silence” speaks of the sorority approach that this program intends to promote in the face of such difficult and unacceptable situations. This program, is facilitated exclusively by trained educators, psychologists and mentors, mostly from the participants’ communities, and will address issues related to their rights and how to react to aggressions that affect their dignity, their physical, sexual and psychological integrity.

In addition, it will delve into topics such as: gender violence, sexuality, the female body and its functioning, women’s rights and autonomy, with a comprehensive approach to this issue.

Claudia Valladares – Director and Co-Founder of Impact Hub Caracas, pointed out that gender-based violence against women is an inadmissible attack on human rights and undermines their integral dignity. The UN defines violence against women as “physical, sexual or psychological harm to women, including threats of such acts”.

Valladares also commented on why Impact Hub Caracas decided to design the ImpactGirls GBV program. “In Venezuela, the economic and political crisis hinders addressing gender-based violence and has led to the closure of many sexual and reproductive health care institutions and services directed at the issue of GBV. Forty percent of Venezuelan women have been, or are at risk of being victims of some type of GBV. In addition, Venezuela ranks among the 15 countries with the highest number of femicides, the strongest form of gender-based violence against women. Feminicides here are 10% higher than the global rate”. We must put an end to this and the best way to combat it is through education in values at an early age.

ImpactGirls VBG will also help each girl develop a “life project”, in which they can dream and explore through practical examples what they want to be and achieve in life based on their talents, passions and needs.

It will also promote the social integration of hearing impaired young women through the creation of mixed groups of girls with and without special needs.

Impact Girls GBV will be executed by Impact Hub Caracas with the facilitation of the organizations Famsex in charge of Psychologist Neiva Hernández and Fundamad directed by Educator Rodriga Flores. It will provide the necessary tools to young women to help them question prevailing paradigms around this issue. And reinforce the values, self-esteem and future prospects of each of these girls.  The program intends to give the girls the necessary strength to break the silence in case they feel vulnerable, or are victims of gender violence and will help them to channel their experiences.

We hope that these 100 girls will be able to influence other girls in their community and that the effect will be multiplied. And if at some point they feel in danger, they will have the tools and values to deal with these situations. And also the support of other girls and the guidance of mentors in their communities.

Caracas – July 12, 2021 – Impact Hub Caracas -a community that promotes triple impact entrepreneurship: financial, social and environmental- in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands launched this Monday the program “ImpactGirls”. program. An educational program focused on the prevention of teenage pregnancy (adolescent pregnancy), through education and training in values for life. It was designed by women and aims to train 100 girls between 10 and 15 years of age, from vulnerable communities in the city of Caracas.

The opening ceremony of this activity was attended by the Head of Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ambassador Robert Schuddeboom and his wife, the Human Rights Officer of the embassy, Gerardo Gonzalez and the Co-Founder and President of Impact Hub Caracas, Claudia Valladares.

Ambassador Schuddeboom and Claudia Valladares were responsible for welcoming these girls who will be designing their life program during the next four weeks.

For Ambassador Robert Schuddeboom, this program is of great importance because “we all want the best for our children. Adolescent pregnancy still compromises the health, development and well-being of young girls, who are not yet ready to make clear decisions when it comes to deciding if and when they want to become mothers. We are committed to contributing to a better future and empowering these adolescents with projects like ImpactGirls. Let’s make a better future for every girl. Let’s empower every adolescent to know themselves, their world and their roles. So they become more assertive and confident”.

“This project that starts today is a good example of how Venezuelans are working to find solutions together. So it is crucial that this program is run by mentors and parents who will help the girls to focus on their goals and achieve them,” added Schuddeboom.

Meanwhile, Claudia Valladares commented on the reason that led Impact Hub Caracas to design ImpactGirls. “An approximate 15% of pregnant teenagers in Latin America are close to 15 years of age, and Venezuela unfortunately is at the top of that list. That’s why we want to be a source of inspiration for all of them. So that they can find educational tools for their lives and reinforce the values that will lead them to make the right decisions at the right time”.

“The ImpactGirls program aims to train girls in education and values, so they are better prepared to choose what they want to do with their lives and what they want to be in the future. It emphasizes the empowerment of young women and their need for greater self-esteem and inspiration to achieve their dreams. We are a society that still does not speak clearly about sexuality, reproductive rights and their consequences,” said Valladares. That is why the program includes adolescents and young mentors from the communities who will be trained to continue the work once the program ends. It also includes mothers, fathers and/or representatives of the girls.

This program executed by Impact Hub Caracas in alliance with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and with the support of the organizations Famsex in charge of Psychologist Neiva Hernández and Fundamad, directed by Educator Rodriga Flores, will work on the prevention of teenage pregnancy, question cultural paradigms around this issue and reinforce values, self-esteem and future prospects of each of these girls.

Caracas – May 21, 2021 – Impact Hub Caracas, a community that promotes triple impact entrepreneurship: financial, social and environmental, reached its seventh anniversary this last saturday May 15, overcoming local and global challenges that have allowed us to strengthen, innovate and create new opportunities for impact.

Our President and Co-Founder, Claudia Valladares, expressed her satisfaction about another year of operations. “We are extremely happy to be seven years old, a magic number that many authors talk about. And that is composed of the sacred number 3 and the earthly number 4, thus establishing a bridge between heaven and earth”.

“Just as seven are the days of the week, seven days is the duration of each lunar phase, seven are the wonders of the world, seven are the main chakras in the human body, seven the notes in the musical scale, and seven are the colors of the rainbow; seven are also the most important events that we have overcome in these seven years of operations. From each one of them we have learned a lesson that we have turned into strength:

  1. Street demonstrations 2014.

We acquired more clarity in our purposes.

  1. High inflation and hyperinflation since 2014.

           We applied financial innovation.

  1. We moved to a new location in 2016.

We started to think big and working in collaboration.

  1. Students and civil demonstrations in 2017.

We started to rethink social and environmental innovation.

  1. Crisis and food shortages.

We started to promote resilience, a mentality of abundance and solidarity.

  1. Introduction of the US dollar as currency to make payments (2018-2021).

We have learned to be flexible and use creativity.

  1. “Corona Times” the pandemic.

Our president and Co-founder, Claudia Valladares, is convinced that we should         become anti-fragile.

It is important to highlight that in times of confinement and social distancing, Impact Hub Caracas managed to provide its entrepreneurial community with spaces with all the necessary biosecurity measures. In addition to offering community members the possibility of obtaining beverages and food right here, without leaving their workplace, with the catering service of Colibrí Café.

And when it comes to innovating and adapting, we are not far behind. And decided to create a virtual space “Avila 4”, where anyone can create and promote events at affordable prices. Our team offers the necessary advice and organization to make this online experience on the screen as similar as possible to a face-to-face encounter, with the necessary digital tools.

We also created “Hub Corporate”, a new membership that combines the best of the corporate world, an innovation lab, a business incubator and an office. How? Very easy. Corporations and companies can offer their members different, safe and alternative spaces to work at home.  “Hub Corporate” is tailored to the needs of each corporate client and by acquiring it, in addition to the benefits of being part of a local triple impact entrepreneurial community, work teams can be inspired and connect with the global Impact Hub community that has more than 16,000 members in over 50 countries.

Impact Hub Caracas continues to connect, inspire, empower and create positive impact. And if you don’t know it yet, we invite you to visit us at Torre Parque Ávila in Los Palos Grandes, 17th floor, and visit our website caracas.impacthub.net.
